Professional Registered Herbal Therapist (RHT)

4. Voting rights at the AGM.

5. May run for a position on the board of directors, or volunteer for subcommittee projects.

Requirements

1. Must be active as a full- or part-time herbal therapist.

2. A minimum of 2000 training hours (derived from one or a combination of formal education, apprenticeship, or self-directed study).  For details about the education requirements click here .

3. A minimum of 500 hours of supervised clinical experience.  

   • A minimum of 250 of the 500 supervised clinical training hours must take place with the student and supervisor physically in-person together.

   • Up to 250 of the 500 supervised clinical training hours may take place with the student and supervisor together virtually.

1. Submit application by clicking join us button at bottom of page (have all your supporting documents ready before starting your application.)
2. Membership application committee will review application.  If requirements met recommended for the peer review.
3. Pass Peer-review interview.
4. Final vote for approval by the board of directors.
5. Take the Oath at subsequent AGM or board meeting
6. Agree to uphold the Standard of Practice and Code of Ethics at all times.
7. Complete ongoing Continuing Education (40 hours each calendar year) and submit a report alongside annual membership renewal
8. Professional liability insurance is strongly recommended for this membership category.

List of supporting documents you will need to submit with your application:

1. Resume
2. Copies of diplomas, degrees, certificates and transcripts - if your 2000 hours training was not completed through a program with transcripts please complete the Herbal Education Log.
3. Two passport size photo

1. Letter of Objective
2. Two letters of recommendation from herbal therapists (one letter may be from a retired therapist).
3. Three Case studies where you have worked with clients in your own clinical practice (outside of your 500 supervised hours).  For a template click here.  If you are a new graduate you may submit 3 case studies from your supervised clinical hours.  

NOTE: If you are applying for RHT membership and you are not a new graduate and you have a lapse in your clinical practice being active (i.e. you were on maternity leave or took a leave of absence from clinical practice) you are required to submit documentation that you have completed 40 hours of continuing education for each year of leave.  For example if your clinical practice was not active for 2 years, you will need to submit continuing education documentation for 80 hours.

Next Peer Review Dates:

• January 25, 2026 - Deadline to submit application, including all supporting documents is November 30, 2025
• May 31, 2026 - Deadline to submit application, including all supporting documents is March 31, 2026
• September 27, 2026 - Deadline to submit application, including all supporting documents is July 31, 2026
