Professional Registered Herbal Therapist (RHT)

$100 annually + one-time $45 admin fee

This category is for individuals who have attained a degree of Western Herbal Medicine training suitable to preparing and recommending herbs within the context of a professional patient-practitioner relationship.

  3. Access to members-only content and resources. 

  4. Voting rights at the AGM.

  5. May run for a position on the board of directors, or volunteer for subcommittee projects.


  • Must be active as a full- or part-time herbal therapist.
  • A minimum of 2000 training hours(derived from one or a combination of formal education, apprenticeship, or self-directed study).  You can find more information about the education requirements here.

  • A minimum of 500 hours of supervised clinical experience (obtained by one or a combination of clinical practicum, mentorship, apprenticeship).

  • Submit 3 case studies where you have worked with clients in your own clinical practice (outside of your 500 supervised hours).  For a template click here.  

NOTE: If you are a new graduate you may submit 3 case studies from your supervised clinical hours.  One year from acceptance as an RHT member you will be required to submit 3 new case studies from your own clinical practice in order to confirm RHT status.

NOTE: The case studies may not be performed on family members.

NOTE: If you have supervised clinical hours in another discipline, up to 50 hours can be used towards the 500 required hours for RHT

  • Pass a Peer-review interview.
  • Final approval by the board of directors.

  • Take the Oath at subsequent AGM or board meeting

  • Agree to uphold the Standard of Practice and Code of Ethics at all times.

  • Complete ongoing Continuing Education (40 hours each calendar year) and submit a report alongside annual membership renewal

  • Professional liability insurance is strongly recommended for this membership category.

List of required documents to submit with application:

  1. Resume
  2. Letter of Objective
  3. Two letters of recommendation from herbal therapists (one letter may be from a retired therapist).
  4. Three Case studies
  5. Copies of diplomas, degrees, certificates and transcripts
  6. Two passport size photo

Next Peer Review Dates:

  • May 29, 2022 - Deadline to submit application, including all supporting documents is March 31, 2022
  • September 25, 2022 - Deadline to submit application, including all supporting documents is July 31, 2022
  • January 29, 2023 - - Deadline to submit application, including all supporting documents is November 30, 2022

Refund Policy

  • No refund on Admin fees.

  • No refund on prorated discount when/if there is one.

  • 60% refund on the annual fee up to 5 days after a new/renewal application has been processed. No refund after that.
